Stone Flow Scapes
Outdoor Spaces That Feel Like Home
Our signature work
Swim in water
that cleans itself.
A natural pool is a swimming pool with a garden for a filter. Plants, stone and gravel keep the water clear, so there is no chlorine, no salt, and no chemical smell. Just soft water that feels like a mountain lake, right outside your back door.
It is the project we love most, and the one people never stop talking about.
No chemicals
Plants and gravel do the filtering. Your skin, eyes and hair will notice the difference on the first swim.
Beautiful all year
In winter it is a planted pond, not a covered hole. It looks good in every season, even when nobody is swimming.
Alive, not sterile
Dragonflies, frogs and birds show up and keep the bugs in check. A small, clean ecosystem in your yard.
Simple to keep
No chemical balancing. Skim the surface, trim the plants in spring and fall, and let the water do its work.
How it works
Two zones. One clean loop.
Tap a number to follow the water.
Follow the water
Water moves in a slow loop: from the swim zone, through the planted zone, down through gravel, and back to you. Tap any number.
Swim zone
Deep, open water for swimming, usually about half the surface. Lined, edged in stone, and as clear as a spring.
Regeneration zone
A shallow garden of lilies, reeds and iris. The plant roots take up the nutrients algae would feed on.
Gravel filter bed
Water sinks through clean gravel where good bacteria break down what the plants miss. Nature's own filter.
Quiet pump
One small, efficient pump keeps the loop moving and feeds the skimmer. Moving water stays clear and keeps mosquitoes away.
Stone edge and beach entry
Boulders, ledges or a gentle stone beach. Walk in like a lake, or dive off the dock.
Styles we build
Every one shaped to the yard it lives in.

Natural pool questions
What people ask Dakota first.
Will the water turn green?
A balanced natural pool stays clear because the plants take the food algae needs. Some algae on stones is normal and healthy. We size the planted zone to your swim zone so the balance holds.
Is it clean enough to swim in?
Yes. The water is filtered constantly through plants and gravel and kept moving by a pump. It is the same idea behind swimming lakes that people have used for generations.
What about mosquitoes?
Mosquitoes need still water. A natural pool is always moving, and it brings in dragonflies and frogs that eat the larvae.
What happens in winter?
It turns into a quiet planted pond. There is no cover to put on. We cut back the plants in fall and start things up again in spring.
How much does one cost?
It depends on the size, the site and the finish. Dakota gives you a real number after the free site visit, not a guess over the phone.
Do you really work nationwide?
Yes. Call or send the form with your address and we will tell you how we can get your project done.
